our belief

It is essential to wonder, and always ask questions, as children do. Questioning presupposes doubt or ignorance, has a curiosity, and a natural sequel – dialogue. This leads us to decisive, peremptory action (precisely because it is supported by a path of knowledge). Therefore, when we began our journey we relied on a fixed point; a respectful and open dialogue with nature, driven by the concrete hope that our ancestral land would lend itself wonderfully to this sacred communication. In this way, year after year, we have gained some certainties. For example, if the fruit is to be considered good, it cannot help but originate from harmonious nature; the more alive the soil is, the more genuine, intense and healthy the wine’s expression will be.

our story

our land

Today we work within seven hectares of vineyards in the municipality of San Giovanni Ilarione, in Lessinia, in the province of Verona. We consider ourselves custodians of the land even though we formally ‘own it’. The soil is purely calcareous, between 300 and 500 metres above sea level, with south/south-east exposure. An atmospheric, bright, beautiful hilly area; ideal soil for vineyards – even varietals considered difficult can express themselves, once they become wines, in all their minerality and in all their flavour spectrum, through a complex ecosystem. An ecosystem that we are committed to keeping fully active, naturally, keeping all the elements in flower with the aim of ensuring an attractive habitat favourable to life. A harmonious vineyard cannot arise from the concept of monoculture.

our work

The real game is won in the vineyard, until harvest. In the cellar, with the utmost caution and constant attention, you can only maintain the advantage you have acquired. This is true in general, but in particular for those who are lucky enough to manage a land of great quality, with the precise aim of transferring its essence into the wine. This is why, first of all, we study and monitor organisms populating our vineyards, capable of giving them life and sap. This is why every time we plant a vineyard, two years prior we carefully choose the plants most suitable for our purpose. This is why we’ve cloned Durella from a massale selection of an old vineyard. This is why we work by hand; not only because the nature of our soil dictates it, but out of a precise conviction, and an emotional closeness. This is why we avoid the use of sulphur, which kills some of the phytoseiidae. This is why we don’t care about quantities to be produced…we could continue, but perhaps you already understand.
